DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Rehabilitation Department provides therapy and nursing services to patients, families and patients caregivers including: Rehabilitation Nursing Care, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology. Our department operates as a system department and provides services to Acute Care, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility and Outpatient settings across four campuses. Our Rehabilitation departments offer a variety of specialty services across the various services delivery areas.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The role of aTherapy Techassists with quality patient care by providing support to physical, occupational, and speech therapists on the acute, outpatient, and inpatient rehabilitation teams. This includes patient care assistance with close supervision of the therapist or other licensed staff, clerical, clean-up of the department, ordering supplies, and general organizational assistance. Caregiver will show initiative in assisting department personnel in completing tasks and will perform other duties as assigned.Supports safe patient handling program at St. Charles Health System by utilizing the safe patient handling equipment for transfers, positioning and patient care.
This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Provides assistance primarily to Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Speech Pathologists.
Works as an effective member of the rehabilitation team.
Supports therapists by completing assigned tasks when appropriate including patient care, ordering, stocking, environmental and DME set up for the units.
Maintains competency, operates equipment when indicated, and carries out therapist directives within scope of practice.
Plays an active role in equipment management for the unit including maintenance, tracking, and cleaning of pertinent equipment.
May be required to drive Rehabilitation van and meet all related SCHS vehicle policy requirements.
Leads the care delivery team in patient transfers, and other mobility tasks while under the supervision of a license staff member. Provides assistance to all staff in regards to lifts and transfers.
Gives clear directions and reinforces teaching to staff regarding safe patient handling best practice.
Maintains competency, operates lifting/transferring equipment when indicated.
Follows directions in the delivery of care.
Recognizes, reports and records observations and care given.

It includes introducing oneself and stating your purpose,asking the patient their preferred name, sitting with the patient to determine their care goals, active listening, and the skillful use of communication skills (touch, eye contact, etc.).

Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory agencies.

EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or GED. Applicant to complete 20 to 40 hours on the job training, observations and shadow time specific to direct patient care within orientation process
Preferred: Pre-professional course work
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: Must have necessary requisites for valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements. Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites.
Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification or ability to obtain during the pre-employment period.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Previous customer service experience in a high volume, fast paced environment.
Preferred: Minimum of 1-year rehabilitative services experience or equivalent education. Previous patient care environment experience helpful.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds.
