DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: St. Charles Medical Group encompasses practices in three Central Oregon counties and numerous specialties including family care, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, immediate/urgent care, cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, general surgery, behavioral health, cancer care, and sleep medicine. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Lead Medical Assistant is responsible for providing hands-on clinical care in direct support of the primary care clinic. This position helps manage patient flow and ensures that medical assistants in the clinic are operating at the top of their scope of practice. The Lead MA assists the RN Clinical Supervisor in insuring operations of the clinic function smoothly and that MA staffing and standard work and clinical protocols are followed. This position does not directly manage other caregivers but may be asked to provide feedback on the work of others.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Coordinates MA clinical staff schedules.
Serves as EPIC superuser and helps teams problem solve EPIC issues, assists with quarterly update rollouts.
Helps with applicant screening, interviews, and onboarding of new MAs.
Assists with yearly MA competency development and tracking.
Leads MA meetings when applicable.
Performs inventory and management of vaccines and serves as VFC super user. Participates in, and prepares for, VFC site visits.
Manages COVID vaccines including staying aware of vaccine changes and inventory requirements. Processes wasted and expired COVID vaccine survey.
Monitors fridge and freezer temperature logs and Isenix. Downloads VFC dataloggers.
Precepts new MAs, shadowing at the elbow to help train new hires. Provides ongoing training support through shared best practices and EPIC trouble shooting.
Provides float coverage for lunches and breaks as needed.
Responds to daily operational and MA workflow issues.
Steps in to assist any provider as needed.
Monitors in basket and assists with more complicated messages and requests.
Prepares monthly POCT and new shipment QCS reports.
Maintains equipment and instrument supply inventory levels.
Role models two-way communication of the SCHS mission, vision, values, and strategic plan for the department.

EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting Program.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: Current MA Certification from one of the following; The American Medical Technology Association (AMT), The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA),The National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certification,or licensure as a paramedic level EMT, Oregon LPN, or Oregon RN.
AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all SCHS worksites.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Two (2) years of Medical Assisting experience.Will also consider EMT-intermediate or paramedic, military corpsman, or LPN. Must have basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures. Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems. Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPAA requirements.
