General Description of the Job Class
Coordinate volunteer activities; assist with the psychosocial needs of patients and their families during visits to Duke University Health System.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Coordinate volunteer activities in various volunteer programs.
Serve as a principal source of information to staff, volunteers and the public for volunteer related questions; respond to requests for information and provide assistance as appropriate.
Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers; interview, screen and select volunteers. May represent the volunteer programs at various local groups, churches, service organizations, and educational institutions.
Coordinate the onboarding of volunteers; background and health clearances, references, guest account and ID badges, uniform distribution and hospital orientation scheduling.
Conduct volunteer orientation and other presentations as needed.
Oversee, schedule, and provide feedback to the volunteers.
Communicate with volunteers and volunteer supervisors on a regular basis; compose and distribute emails or newsletter; schedule meetings as needed.
Maintain volunteer records, compile and manipulate data, summarize findings and write reports or portions of reports.
Coordinate annual updates for volunteers.
Assist in volunteer recognition and retention efforts; ongoing and annual volunteer appreciation events.
Assist in the development and coordination of training programs for volunteers.
Assist in the development of operational policies and procedures for volunteers that adhere to professional and ethical standards.
Assist in the development and implementation of new volunteer programs; position descriptions, needs assessment, and training of volunteer supervisors.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires a bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Education or a related field.
Experience
Work requires one year of experience in either counseling, teaching or AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE in volunteer services or a related field. A master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or a related field may substitute for the required experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of department policies, procedures, and goals.
Demonstrated high level administrative support skills (advanced Microsoft Office skills).
Demonstrated the ability to gain the confidence and cooperation of others.
Demonstrated editing and proofreading skills.
Ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet demanding deadlines.
Must be self-direct and able to take initiative.
Demonstrated interviewing, scheduling, and coaching skills.
