This position performs technical duties as a Paramedic (Basic and Advanced Life Support Services). In addition to performing all the duties and responsibilities of a Paramedic, the incumbent will, as a regular and recurring part of their assignment, exercise supervisory authorities and responsibilities over the Ambulance Services Program and have technical and administrative authority over all positions assigned. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is serving as a lead/supervisor and technical advisor pertaining to emergency medical services; performing the duties and responsibilities of a paramedic that includes but is not limited to responding to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illness; supervising and/or administering life-sustaining aid to patients; performing patient triage and employing a variety of advanced emergency medicine procedures during transport; planning the work of other paramedics and subordinate staff members; and observing workers' performance and conducting performance evaluations. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. Major duties include but not limited to: Oversees all aspects of the Ambulance Services Program (ASP); Performs the full range of supervisory responsibilities to include but not limited to creates, adjusts and approves ASP employee schedules as well as reviewing and approving leave requests; interviews candidates for positions and recommends appointment, promotion or reassignment; observes performance and develops performance standards; resolves formal and informal complaints; prepares and recommends awards or bonuses; provides advice and counsel related to work and administrative matters; assures subordinates are trained, etc.; Prepares forecasts of funds needed for equipment, materials and supplies; Inter-facility transport of emergent, urgent and stable patients, sometimes over long distances; Determines and prioritizes appropriate medical treatment/procedures; Performs patient triage and records patient's vital signs; Administers basic and advanced life support care at emergency scene in accordance with established medical standards; Provides fluid resuscitation by IV and manages trauma injuries; Operates or utilizes various emergency vehicles and emergency/medical equipment; Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; Operates the emergency transport vehicle and uses telephone and radio communications equipment and systems; Assists in lifting and carrying patients into or out of transport vehicles and into treatment facility; and, Performs all other duties as assigned.
