General Summary:
The Cardiac Device Specialist collaborates with the Electrophysiologists to provide quality patient care in a Team environment. This person utilizes knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology and biomedical engineering concepts to assess the functioning of patients’ CIED, analyzes and interprets device diagnostics with accurate clinical documentation. In addition, this person manages the remote monitoring program for CIEDs, triages alerts per protocol to ensure safe, quality patient care. The Cardiac Device Specialist mentors, educates clinical Cardiology staff, supports policy development and ensures operations for device management is completed on a daily basis.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Individual
• Prioritize activities and work within defined policies, procedures, and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines; help determine appropriate approach for new assignments.
• Coordinates the device clinic workflow(s), scheduling, documentation and billing for all services.
• Provides patient education for cardiac devices, which includes remote monitoring instruction.
• Appropriately screens, communicates, and responds to patient needs in a timely manner.
• Informs patients and their families of anticipated or completed procedures, appropriate follow up, and use of any home monitoring equipment.
• Evaluates patients to ensure proper follow-up of all cardiac monitoring devices. Interrogates device and makes appropriate program changes per protocol for optimal device function.
• Reviews remote transmissions from the various device companies, downloads the data, documents and enters data in the electronic health records per protocol.
• Tracks implanted devices that are on a recall list, document and intervene as appropriate.
• Transition of care management for established and referral patients providing continuity of care.
• Reviews data from remote monitoring platforms, triages appropriately.
• Collaborates with Arrhythmia Clinic Nurse to coordinate care and triage patients’ physical symptoms appropriately.
• Collaborates with the Practice Leadership to maintain Arrhythmia Clinic device policies and procedures as well as ensure clinical competencies for appropriate clinical staff.
• Initiates and maintains personal professional development as required for continuing education and participates to bring new technology updates to the Admin Team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge
• Extensive working knowledge of cardiac implantable electronic devices of all forms, electrophysiology, electrophysiology procedures, non-invasive pulse stimulation, cardiac anatomy and physiology.
• Knowledge of different device equipment, cardiac data and algorithms within the device equipment, standard tests and procedures, and readings of rhythm strips.
• Knowledge of arrhythmias and ability to communicate problems to the Cardiologist, Electrophysiologist, and/or Nurse Practitioner.
• Knowledge of common hazards and precautions to ensure patient safety.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medications related to cardiovascular medicine.
Skills and Abilities
• Skill in programming devices from various companies per protocol.
• Critical thinking skills to ensure appropriate assessments, problem identification, planning, and implementation of solutions within scope of practice.
• Skill in preparing/maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence as necessary.
• Skill in directing appropriate staff as assigned to oversee patient care within the Arrhythmia clinic.
• Ability to maintain quality control standards.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Qualifications:
Education:
• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
• Healthcare degree or related field, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Successful completion of a cardiac device rhythm management course or equivalent experience, IBHRE certification preferred.
• Minimum five years of recent cardiac device management experience in clinic and/or industry.
