ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Studies patients' medical histories. Reviews and verifies the physician's treatment plan/prescription for treatment technique, treatment volume, critical organs, treatment dose, precautions, and orders/notes.
Designs treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation to establish a treatment field technique that delivers the radiation oncologist's prescribed radiation dose while limiting loss of important healthy organ function.
Communicates treatment plans to Radiation Oncologist for approval and to Radiation Therapist for plan implementation.
Works with radiation therapists in the implementation of the patient treatment plans, including but not limited to the correct application of immobilization devices, beam modification devices, approved field arrangements and other treatment variables.
Creates and maintains records of treatment plans and outcomes.
Monitors and records radiation treatments. Ensures treatment records are properly completed with patient identification and appropriate data.
Ensures proper functioning of all radiation oncology equipment. Establishes equipment setting for each procedure.
Plans and produces molds, casts and other immobilization devices for accurate treatment delivery.
