Overview
The Behavioral Health Unit specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of emotional and behavioral disorders for pediatric patients ages 5???18. Conditions treated include developmental or emotional problems, traumatic stress, abuse, physical illness, and suicidal concerns. The majority of patients are adolescents, and the unit focuses on structuring the day as close to a school routine as possible. Nurses in this unit play a key role in helping patients navigate complex emotional and behavioral challenges in a supportive, structured environment.
Summer Orientation Details
Start Dates:??May and June 2025
Commitment:
Complete general nursing orientation and role-specific training/classes, which may require full-time, day-shift hours.
Work part-time to full-time hours alongside your preceptor, with a minimum commitment of 24 hours/week during the program.
Work PRN during school semesters and breaks with flexible scheduling options.
Be immersed in the patient population and diagnoses specific to your practice setting while learning nurse technician roles and responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities: As a Student Nurse Technician, you will:
Complete vital signs.
Support activities of daily living (ADLs).
Serve as a patient care companion, ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Perform technical skills such as obtaining blood sugars, removing peripheral IVs and indwelling catheters, performing 12-lead EKGs, and more.
Eligibility Requirements
Must be enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate or associate registered nursing degree program.
Must have completed at least one clinical rotation.

The Nurse Technician I assists in patient/family education and in the delivery of individual care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
Responsibilities:
1. Assists in delivering individual care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
2. Assists in patient/family education capabilities and under the direction of a licensed nurse.
3. Contributes to the assessment of individual patient care.
4. Contributes to the delivery of patient care.
5. Participates in the educational efforts of the department and the nursing unit.
6. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age and developmental status.
7. Other duties as required.

Education and Experience
Education: Must currently be enrolled in a baccalaureate accredited registered nursing program as a junior or senior or enrolled in the second year of an accredited associate degree in nursing program.
Certification: Current Health Care Provider BLS training from the American Heart Association is required.
Years of relevant experience: None required; some healthcare experience is preferred.
