The role you’ll contribute:
The Flight Respiratory Therapist (RT) is an experienced and advanced practitioner responsible for the rapid and safe air transport of critically ill patients. Functions as a collaborative member of the AdventHealth Flight 1 team working jointly with the Flight RN in making patient care decisions.Completes and documents patient assessments, treatments, medications and reactions to treatments and medications per department protocols and AdventHealth policy. Adheres to safety requirements while transporting patients in an around the aircraft. Maintains thorough and accurate information in the Right CAD system for department statistics. Completes the QA process on chart reviews for patient safety and improved outcomes. Works jointly with the Flight RN and Flight Communication Specialist to ensure timely acceptance of patient transfer and placement through the Emergency Transfer Center. Communicates patient updates to physicians with appropriate triage of urgency. Initiates the hospital and physician chain of command when appropriate or if there are EMTALA concerns
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Adheres to safety requirements and applies caution, remaining alert to hazards at all times while transporting patients in and around the aircraft. Utilizes proficiency with radio communications and emergency egress procedures.
Assists with clinical instruction, skills check-offs and precepting. Completes and performs competency check offs and monitors when needed.
Serves as the Safety Officer for Specialty Team Flights
Communicates patient updates to physicians and receiving units through dispatch for medical control
Completes timely documentation of patient demographics, the transfer process and flight times in the Right CAD system for accuracy of department statistics
Works jointly with the Flight RN, Flight Communication Specialists to determine the most appropriate and efficient transport method for patient’s safe and timely arrival.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Associates degree from an accredited respiratory therapy or cardiopulmonary science program
Minimum of 3 years post graduate work in the critical care areas of Emergency Department and Critical Care – may include CVICU, ICU, Cath Lab, CCU, Neuro ICU
Five years of patient care
Current valid State of Florida License as a credentialed Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the NBRC (National Board of Respiratory Care)
BLS
ACLS or ACLS – EP
PALS
NRP
Bachelor’s in health-related field (Preferred)
OB and Pediatric experience (Preferred)
Air Medical Core Curriculum (Preferred)
Instructor status of once certification (ACLS or PALS) (Preferred)
ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialty) (Preferred)
AARC (American Association of Respiratory Care) (Preferred).
