Job Description: Pi Beta Phi Rehabilitation Institute (PBPRI) at Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center is seeking applicants for a PT I term position in the 1-year (12 month) Neurological Residency Program in Physical Therapy. The Neurological Residency Program is a joint venture between Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Belmont University and is designed to prepare the resident to sit for the Neurological Clinical Specialist (NCS) examination.
PBPRI is the outpatient interdisciplinary neurological rehabilitation program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In this dynamic environment, Physical Therapists work as a team with colleagues in occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and social work to promote community re-entry, and vocational and/or academic transitioning for the patients at PBPRI. Practice within the seating and mobility clinic involves collaboration with credentialed suppliers of seating and mobility devices and collaboration with multidisciplinary clinics.
The resident's responsibilities in the program are as follows:
At PBPRI, the resident will evaluate and treat patients with acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, falls risk, and vestibular disorders. Advanced foundational knowledge and skill-based instruction will be delivered via one-on-one mentoring for an average of 4 hours/week. In total, the resident will receive at least 150 hours of mentoring during the program. In addition, the resident will participate in 75 hours of didactic coursework over the 1-year program.
The resident will spend time each week involved in classroom and lab-based teaching experiences and other clinical observation experiences outside of Pi Beta Phi Rehabilitation Institute (e.g., Vanderbilt Orthopedics Institute, Vanderbilt Dayani Center, VUMC Acute Care PT service, Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital, etc.). In addition, the resident will have the opportunity to participate in several specialty clinics, including Adult Wheelchair Seating and Mobility, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Movement Disorder and Facial Synkinesis Clinics.
The ideal candidate will have a strong professional interest in neurological rehabilitation and a desire to become a Neurological Clinical Specialist.
Other duties include but are not limited to the following:
* Interdisciplinary teamwork
* Participate in regularly scheduled webinars
* Attendance at two on-site modules presented by the Neurologic Physical Therapy Education Consortium may be required as part of the Residency. Vanderbilt University will pay the full tuition payment for the resident's participation in the Consortium. The resident is responsible for the flight, hotel and food associated with the two modules of the Consortium, which are four days in length
Basic Qualifications:
* This position requires a degree in physical therapy.
License / Certification Required:
* Applicant must have a Tennessee State License for Physical Therapy before the hire date.
Requirements for Application:
* Applications needed to be submitted through the PTCAS system of the APTA in 2024.

Additional Information:
The resident will be considered a Vanderbilt employee for the term of their clinical experience at Vanderbilt.
The resident shall be considered to be and shall be treated solely as a PT Resident and with an employment term of one year with no expectation of receiving future employment whether from Vanderbilt or Belmont, beyond their employment by Vanderbilt during the term of the clinical experience.
Shift: This is a full-time position; 40 hours per week; 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday-Friday.
