Summary:
The Histology Manager provides leadership to the Histology team comprised of Histology Technologists , Assistants, and Histology Clerical Staff; Provides schedule coverage 3 days a week; Leads the Histology team to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and staff by ensuring excellence in all aspects of laboratory operations; Provides oversight and training of the administration of the Pathology Information System; Ensures appropriate staffing and productivity levels, develops/monitors performance and productivity improvement, safety, quality and regulatory standards; Ensures excellence in customer service and achievement of budgetary goals; manages continuous improvement of section's processes and functions; Responsible for fiscal management of the section, including forecasting and monitoring of operating performance; Identifies and implements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of service; Involved in section's human resources and employee relations; Provides on-going training and professional development of staff.; Adheres to state and federal rules and regulations; ensures compliance with CAP, other federal, state and local agencies; Performs clinical and related duties as required. Reports to Admin Director, Laboratory Services.
Responsibilities:
Competency: Exhibits a commitment to operational management and completing tasks through personal initiative, and persistence. -Accountability: Performs and interprets, standard, complex and specialized tests; Participates in the introduction, investigation and implementation of new procedures and in the evaluation of new instruments; Evaluates computer-generated data and troubleshoots problem; Develops and implements internal policies and procedures for department in alignment with hospital policies. Ensures that laboratory procedures are accurate verifying results conducting and evaluating routine audits ; Ensures that functional verification, preventative maintenance and trouble-shooting on all equipment are conducted to ensure reliable results, and maintains proper documentation of equipment; Serves as technical resource to physicians and staff; Manages resolution of technical issues related to results and/or instruments; Coordinates with others for employees work schedule and is responsible for acting as a group leader; Develops, completes, maintains and monitors QA/QC/PM processes to assure quality outcomes; Assists in training personnel in departmental procedures, policy and safety, and follows their progress assuring annual competencies are completed.
- Competency: Demonstrates a personal accountability for financial results through mindful execution of section's budget; Engages staff in efforts to contain costs and improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of services. Understands the basics of health care financial management.
- Accountability: Assists in establishing section's budget targets, holds self and other individuals accountable for compliance with annual budget plan; Identifies program or service growth opportunities and methodologies to enhance revenues.
- Competency: Ensure individual actions contribute to the overall good of the institution; Understands and is able to communicate how individual and section goals overlap with YRMC's goals; Demonstrates commitment for the good of the organization while maintaining congruence with commitment to the section; Recognizes and uses information about organizational climate and key individuals to accomplish legitimate organizational goals; Understands the importance of timing, politics and group processes in managing change; Balances section needs with the hospital needs and reconciles the two without sacrificing the critical needs of either.
- Accountability: Determines validity of test results through an understanding of the underlying scientific principles of laboratory testing as well as the technical, procedural, and problem-solving aspects; Exercises initiative and independent judgment in dealing with the broad scope of procedural and technical problems; Collaborates in decisions involving; quality control/quality assurance programs, instrument and methodology selection; Completes preventive maintenance, safety procedures, reagent purchases, test selection/utilization, and computer/statistical data; Ensures compliance with regulations governing hospitals and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring the organization's service delivery system and by initiating changes as required.

- Pathology Information System (PIS):Interacts with Information Systems, Nursing Services, Ancillary Departments and physicians in determining PIS needs and objectives; Collaborates with LIS Coordinator on all aspects of PIS systems administration and establishes standards and audits of standards for systems that meet or exceed customer satisfaction; Plans and directs all aspects of training for PIS that meet or exceed customer satisfaction; Collaborates with the Information Systems Department in defining and meeting application-related project objectives to include new technology and system implementation. Oversees the implementation and maintenance of PIS including testing and upgrades; Reviews and maintains current application contracts for fair pricing and service that is in the best interest of YRMC; Plans and maintains budget for technology involving the PIS.

Minimum Requirements:
- BACHELOR'S DEGREE
- HISTOTECHNOLOGIST CERTIFICATION (HTL)
- MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST (MLS)
- MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST (MT)
- 5+ years related; 1+ years supervisory experience
- Work experience in Histology department with processing tissues, embedding, microtomy, HE and IHC stains
