The Health Technician position is located at the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System, Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center in the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) department. The purpose of the health technician is to provide support to inpatient Physical and Occupational therapists during encounters with patients referred to PM&R for various services. This position will work in the acute care hospital and on the acute rehab unit. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-06 grade - Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. In addition to meeting the IOR you also must meet the following: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Equipment set-up, and/or clean-up. Maintaining files and records. Ensuring patient satisfaction surveys are distributed and received. Performing simple treatment procedures such as managing lines, assisting with transfers/lifts, and walking patients on the STRIDE program (supervised walking), and others as directed by PT/PTA/OT/COTA/SLP/Physiatrist or other providers. Using techniques to appropriately de-escalate disruptive patients. Observing patients and reporting changes in condition (deviation in color, pulse, respiration, temperature, and blood pressure). Taking and recording vital signs. Using a computer to perform administrative duties. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the one year of full-time study requirement.
