Job Summary
ACUTE is a medical stabilization unit for people with medical complications from severe eating disorders or other causes of reversible severe malnutrition. Ninety-five percent of our patients come from outside Colorado seeking expert care for their medical complications before stepping down to further behavioral health focused care. The unit provides medical management, nutritional rehabilitation, physical rehabilitation, and psychiatric and psychological support to each patient during their recovery journey.
The ACUTE hospitalist is responsible for providing care to patients requiring medical stabilization for severe malnutrition from an eating disorder during their stay at a hospital with minimal oversight from the ACUTE Medical Director. Their duties include managing schedules for inpatient treatments and coordinating care providers, ordering tests and maintaining medical records for their patients.
Essential Functions:
Provide and document direct medical care to medically and psychiatrically complex patients, discuss patient care with nurses and resolve any problems that may arise. Complete paperwork to facilitate leave of absences for patients as requested.
Coordinate care between different doctors caring for a patient, different multidisciplinary team members (RD, psychologist, PT, OT, psychiatry, SW) caring for the patient, serve as point of contact for hospital staff, and maintain communication with the patient?s family and outpatient providers through leading of family meetings and providing medical updates.
Service on committees and work to help improve quality, efficiency, patient care and infection control while fostering teamwork and improving communication between staff and physicians. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in or provision of additional trainings, educational programs, reviewing current literature, and attending in-service meetings and workshops.
Evaluates patient capacity for medical decision making in setting of severe mental illness. Understands and applies Colorado Statutes and Behavioral health administration rules governing 27-65 facilities to provide involuntary psychiatric care that is compliant with these laws/regulations.
Provides teaching and supervision to multi-disciplinary trainees, including residents and medical students.
Education:
Doctorate Degree from an accredited medical school and completed accredited residency program and fellowship for specialist, or equivalent. Required
Work Experience:
Will receive on the job training re: care for people with eating disorders and Colorado Statutes and Behavioral health administration rules governing 27-65 designated facilities.
Licenses:
MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required
DO-Physician - State Medical Board Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
