DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Cancer Center at St. Charles Health System is a multi-site comprehensive cancer center that provides holistic care to our patients.The Cancer Center provides chemotherapy, medical oncology, infusion services, radiation therapy, oncology rehabilitation, integrative medicine, nutrition, social work, survivorship, and other supportive care treatments. All our staff support our patients in the various stages of their treatments. Services are provided at Cancer Centers in both Bend and Redmond.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Oncology Massage Therapist at St. Charles Health System is responsible for providing massage therapy and lymphedema massage to cancer patients in active treatment, and cancer survivors.
This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Provides light gentle massage to patients in active cancer treatment with the intent to increase wellness, relaxation, stress reduction, pain relief, postural improvement and/or provide general or specific therapeutic benefits.
Provides maintenance lymphedema massage to cancer survivors with chronic lymphedema symptoms. Assesses each lymphedema patient pre and post treatment for pitting edema.
Assesses each massage patient pre and post treatment for pain, anxiety, sense of well-being and pulse.
Maintains understanding of appropriate massage based on patient therapy (Ex. avoids massage to areas being irradiated).
Able to wear gloves during treatment. This is required for patients within 48 hours of receiving chemotherapy (includes oral chemotherapy).

EDUCATION:
Required: Completion of accredited massage therapy program and Oregon state licensure.
