Job Summary
Denver Health, the premier safety net institution for the city of Denver and entire Rocky Mountain region, in collaboration with the University of Colorado, is seeking an academic diagnostic radiologist at the level of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor, depending on level of experience. The ideal candidate will have a record of clinical excellence, strong teaching abilities, and scholarly interests. Responsibilities for the role include clinical radiology practice; nurturing a robust and growing educational program for students, residents, and fellows; and participating in a research portfolio for the section including clinical, health care delivery, and/or education research.
The Organization
Denver Health is an integrated, efficient, academic health care system that is considered a model for the nation. As Colorado?s primary safety net institution, Denver Health provides the full spectrum of medical services from primary to oncologic care. Serving one third of the city of Denver, as well as patients from outside Denver, Denver Health provides primary care services via a citywide network of community health centers, school-based health clinics, and a newly opened 7-story 293,000 square foot outpatient medical center. Inpatient services are housed in multiple campus buildings with 555 adult, pediatric, and OB/GYN beds. Denver Health is committed to serving all patients, regardless of the ability to pay.
Denver Health?s emergency medicine program is nationally renowned, with over 120,000 patient visits per year, and with a nationally recognized stand-alone emergency medicine residency. Denver Health?s Level 1 Trauma Center is one of the world?s leading trauma centers and has amongst the highest survival rates in the country. The trauma center sees 18,000 patients annually, 2700 of whom are admitted, and many of whom arrive as transfers from any one of 60 regional hospitals. The trauma service is extraordinarily academically productive with millions in grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and United States Department of Defense (DoD). The seminal text "Trauma" was authored by Denver Health faculty.
Denver Health is affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine. All faculty at Denver Health have CU SOM appointments and are valued participants in a variety of educational, research, and clinical collaborations. Faculty have access to the academic and cultural resources of Denver Health, CU SOM, and other affiliate institutions.
Position Summary
The ideal candidate will participate in the delivery of outpatient and inpatient services, including MR, CT, radiography, and basic procedures such as GI fluoroscopy, lumbar puncture. Given the volume and strength of the ED and trauma service at Denver Health, there is an emphasis on providing advanced, cutting edge, and highly collaborative care in the acute setting. Most of the imaging volume, however, is outpatient with Denver Health providing a full gamut of ambulatory imaging services. In addition to the imaging services currently offered, Denver Health seeks to continuously improve and innovate.
Denver Health radiologists participate in the education of University of Colorado medical students, radiology and IR/DR residents, and fellows. There is a strong desire to continue to expand our educational offerings; the department currently supports 10 radiology residents, 1 neuroradiology fellow, and 1 breast imaging fellow.
The Department values patient-centered care and a highly collaborative work environment. There is a strong working relationship with medical-surgical subspecialties, internal medicine, and emergency medicine.
Reporting Structure
The radiologist will report to the Department Chair of Radiology, with direct supervision from Chiefs of neuroradiology, body imaging, and IR. The department benefits from excellent administrative support. All radiology staff (technologists, radiology RNs, transporters, clerks, etc.) report within the department, not to an external hierarchy, so there is alignment of staff and faculty towards the goals of the department.
Candidate Qualifications:
M.D., D.O. or foreign equivalent medical degree; board certification in Radiology; fellowship training and/or extensive experience in neuroradiology preferred; eligibility for licensure in Colorado.
New graduates and experienced radiologists are encouraged to apply.
Experience
Candidates should be competent in all modalities of diagnostic radiology, and ideally have experience in basic procedures including GI fluoroscopy, lumbar puncture, and basic interventional procedures. Opportunities to perform advanced spine and IR intervention also exist.
Candidates should be competent in interpretating all ED studies on call, including radiography, CT, US, and MRI modalities.
Prior record of academic or educational scholarship is preferred.
Experience in teaching students and/or trainees is preferred.
