This position provides nursing leadership and oversight for facilities, projects and processes within hospital nursing services. The Assistant Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for promoting the CHRISTUS Health mission, core values and vision, and for operational effectiveness and quality of nursing care and services. Builds collaborative nurse-physician relationships to provide safe, effective, and efficient patient care while ensuring nurses feel empowered to serve as patient representatives/advocates. In addition, the In alignment with regional nursing leadership, provides nursing personnel with leadership, decision-making, and direction in patient care services and defined areas. In alignment with the region, responsible for assessing the environment, forecasting trends, transmitting values, communicating ideas, developing and implementing policies, managing, and initiating systems and programs that promote excellence in service and safety for patient care delivery and that create an excellent place to work.
Responsibilities:
Works collaboratively with hospital executives, physicians and directors to establish and maintain a safe, suitable, caring environment for effective and efficient nursing practice and patient care services
Coordinates and develops before implementing policies, standards, and programs that support the clinical practice of nursing and that support the effectiveness of nursing care and delivery systems for all patients and patient populations served by the hospital and as defined in the hospital's plan(s) for providing nursing care, treatment, and services
Standards of care, practice, policies, and procedures are evidence-based and knowledge driven
Ensures all nursing policies, procedures, and standards are defined, documented, and accessible to the nursing staff in written or electronic form
Develops and implements a plan for providing nursing care to patients requiring nursing care, treatment, and services ensuring that the nursing care delivery system considers factors such as patient mix, community needs, knowledge and skills of nursing staff, availability of resources, and established health care outcomes
Builds effective partnerships with physicians and collaborates with the medical staff in the delivery of healthcare services and the development of mutually agreed upon clinical care programs
Works to establish effective collaborative interdisciplinary and intradepartmental teams throughout the facility to establish a climate of exceptional clinical care, patient safety, immediate response to adverse events, fiscally responsible care, appropriate admission and discharge transitions, culturally sensitive interactions, and promotion of health
Encourages innovative leadership at the department level promoting nurses' decision-making control over nurse practice
Proactively supports the mission and vision of CHRISTUS Health
Demonstrates and expects others to demonstrate personal and professional behaviors consistent with CHRISTUS Health's mission, vision and values
Actively supports the development of the CHRISTUS culture and supports efforts for integration of the culture across the region
Collaborates with the Vice President of Nursing Operations and other leaders to ensure coordination of appropriate nursing practice
Develops innovative programs to source, recruit, develop, and retain clinical staff to address the continually decreasing supply of qualified workers
Collaborates with other departments and the region as appropriate to implement effective marketing, recruitment, and retention programs
Develops and manages operating and capital budgets to meet and exceed financial goals
Fosters an environment which actively demonstrates that continuous quality improvement is an operating tenet of the organization; identifies and implements best practices and supports the transfer of such best practices to other organizations within CHRISTUS
Acts as catalyst for change in the organization; responds to change with flexibility and adaptability to overcome organizational resistance and inertia; demonstrates the ability to focus and energize associates to work together for change; gains maximum support from others for new initiatives
Supports CHRISTUS Health by assuming any other responsibilities that are mutually agreed upon to ensure the effective functioning of the CHRISTUS Health ministry
Requirements:
Master's Degree
Minimum of 1 year of experience as a senior nursing leader
Minimum of 5 years? experience in nursing leadership
RN License in state of employment or compact
