Job Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for Duke Orthopedics - Sports Shoulder located at the Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, NC to provide direct patient care services in collaboration with the attending physician and other advanced practice providers for patients requiring Sports Shoulder orthopedic care. The APP will augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients in the clinic as well as hospitalized patient rounding at Duke Raleigh Hospital. If a NP-RNFA certified or a PA, first assist in the operating room at Duke Raleigh Hospital as needed.
Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provide care for patients needing shoulder orthopedic care.
Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies, assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients' condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed.
Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
Refer general orthopedic patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of the patients.
Call Requirement: Every other week
Experience
Prefer Orthopedics work experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant or if a new graduate from a NP or PA program, Orthopedics clinical rotations.
Job Hours
Primary hours will be Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Master's degree in Nursing.
Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
BLS required.
License
Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required.
Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
