Job Summary
The Orthopedic Department at Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting for an Orthopedic APP (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Podiatry and Hand Clinic. It's anticipated that the successful candidate will work in our podiatry clinic two days per week and our hand and microvascular clinic two days per week. Under general supervision, works with physician, clinical, and leadership staff to provide specialty care to patients. Examines and diagnoses patients and develops treatment plans. As appropriate for clinical setting provides treatment for orthopedic related injuries, emergencies, follow up, screening and testing. Performs diagnostic testing, referral as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment. They also ensure an environment of safe quality care and continual quality improvement. Demonstrates sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional growth through participation in continuing education, staff development, and committee involvement.
Essential Functions:
Monitors and evaluates the medical condition of patients in collaboration with the physician and with other disciplines to meet standards of care or by applying appropriate protocols, and makes decisions regarding treatment. Refers patient to other services as appropriate. (10%)
Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. (10%)
Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory restrictions. (10%)
Initiates, performs or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. (10%)
Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly, and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records (10%)
Precepts APP students by following Denver Health guidelines for trainees. (10%)
Maintains and enhances professional growth and development. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable current medical literature. (10%)
Attends and participates in staff meetings. (10%)
Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. (10%)
Involvement in clinical coordination, quality, and process improvement efforts which may encompass protocol development, strategic planning, and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment. (10%)
Education:
Master's Degree Required
Work Experience:
1-3 years experience preferred.
Licenses:
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and
APN - Advanced Nurse Practitioner - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required or
PA-Physician Assistant - State Medical Board Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical and nursing principals, procedures, and community resources.
Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
Demonstrates strong surgical assist skills within scope of practice.
Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other departments and the public.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to demonstrate excellent work with minimal supervision.
Strong knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation. Epic preferred.
Microsoft Office products.
