The Toxicology Department is seeking a Technician to join our laboratory team. The selected candidate will receive comprehensive on-the-job training in pre-analytical preparation and support for patient sample testing.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm (Some Overtime is required)
Shift: 1st shift

General Responsibilities:
Locate, retrieve, aliquot and track movement of samples (primarily urine) for initial testing and confirmation testing. Evaluate specimens and test orders to determine work priority and batch processing to ensure acceptable turnaround times.
Prepare all paperwork, racks, and controls for the Hamilton process, ensuring compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Verify name(s), identifier(s), and container location/movement, applying labels accurately.
Identify and appropriately handle unacceptable or unusual specimens, flagging problem samples as needed.
Sort and forward all accessioned samples requested for confirmation and repeat testing, tracking all movements within the database.
Maintain a clean, well-stocked, organized area including glassware and extraction materials.
Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures, including safety and quality standards.
Promote a positive work environment and team collaboration.
Participate in training and instructional activities, demonstrating and explaining the testing process to trainees.
Technician Specific Responsibilities:
Maintains up to date calibration materials for the lab.
Maintains stock inventory used to prepare calibration materials for the lab.
Prepare laboratory reagents according to established department standard operating procedures and established timeframes
Adhere to SOP when preparing materials and specimens for both pre and post extraction
Maintain accurate records and documentation for all laboratory tests and equipment including, but not limited to, maintenance logs, temperature logs, disinfection logs and assay SOPs
Requirements:
Associate?s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
One year of healthcare related work experience, a medical certification or college level courses in laboratory science background preferred.
Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage time.
Excellent problem resolution skills.
Work effectively in a fast-paced production environment to meet established turn-around times.
Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
Able to work independently within a team under general supervision.
Ability to work overtime as required by departmental needs.
