RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Director of Surgical Services to lead and oversee all surgical and procedural services at Clara Maass Medical Center (CMMC) in Belleville, NJ. This is a mid-career leadership opportunity for a surgeon a strong background in surgical oncology, thoracic, endocrine, colorectal surgery, and a special interest in cancer care. We are proudly partnered with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state’s only NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
As the Director of Surgical Services, you will work closely with the Chair of Surgery at CMMC, hospital executive leadership, and system surgical administrative leadership to advance perioperative services and integrate CMMC’s surgical program into the larger RWJBarnabas Health System. This role requires a strategic and operational mindset, ensuring excellence in quality, safety, and hospital performance while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Leadership experience and achievement in administration or performance improvement are preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the Perioperative Committee to enhance operating room efficiency and procedural services.
Partner with leadership in recruitment efforts to support programmatic growth in alignment with RWJBarnabas Health’s system-wide strategy.
Work closely with the Chief Medical Officer to optimize quality, safety, and regulatory compliance for all surgical services.
Oversee ancillary staff, including PAs, RNFAs, and NPs, ensuring a high-functioning surgical team.
Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures to enhance surgical operations.
Promote patient satisfaction and quality improvement initiatives to elevate the standard of care.
Lead educational programs for staff and community outreach efforts.
Enhance relationships with private practice physicians to foster a collaborative surgical network.
Ideal Candidate:
NJ licensed or eligible for NJ licensure
Board-certified surgeon with specialization in surgical oncology, thoracic, endocrine, or colorectal surgery.
At least 10 years of clinical experience with a demonstrated track record in leadership, administration, or performance improvement.
Interest in building and leading an integrated surgical program within a larger health system.
Commitment to excellence in surgical quality, safety, and efficiency.
