PACU Nurse Manager
Salary or Pay Range: $153,000.00 - $329,000.00 annually
The areas of responsibilities for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Manager include the Same Day Surgery Center Preop/PACU, 48X Preop/PACU and Extended Recovery Unit. These departments/units deliver patient care through the provision and management of fiscal, material, and human resources, technological support, planning and coordinating surgical care with the medical and paramedical staff to effectively manage patients for surgical intervention. The PACU Manager is expected to work in a collaborative environment with multi-disciplinary teams including and not limited to surgeons, residents and anesthesia colleagues. This position is responsible for a significant operating budget and has oversight of a significant number of employees, approximately 125 or more FTEs. Ensures adherence of personnel to departmental policies/procedures, regulatory requirements, and sets standards of care. This position is responsible for creating an organizational system that fosters the participation of Perioperative Services staff in the assessment, strategy planning, implementation, and evaluation of professional practice to ensure safe, efficient and therapeutically effective nursing care. This includes organizational programming, goal setting, and policy development. The Preop/PACU Manager is responsible for the quality of care, competency of staff, performance improvement, and contributes to the development of institutional programs and policies. They also maintain awareness of professional matters at the local state and national levels that affect the delivery of patient care and develop unit specific performance standards in assigned departments/units.
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
• A valid California Registered Nurse License without restrictions
• Minimum of one of the following certifications required: CPAN, CAPA, CCRN, NE-BC/NEA-BC.
• Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. (RN to Master’s Bridge in lieu of BSN may be considered qualifying)
• Master’s degree required (enrollment at a time of hire with completion within 3 years in the position may be considered qualifying)
• Minimum of two (2) years of nursing management experience.
• Three (3) years workforce experience leading, managing, and developing a large interdisciplinary team or department including performance management, corrective action, setting staff and department goals and expectations.
• Five (5) years PACU experience in a similar setting
• Experience in resource management and budgeting. Proficiency in developing and updating unit policies and procedures to align with the best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area
• Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
• Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
• Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
• Knowledge of ASPAN perioperative standards
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in clinical operations and fiscal management
• Critical thinking skills including strategic planning, operational process analysis and service recovery
• Advanced knowledge of pathophysiology and nursing process to provide clinical leadership within the Perioperative Division. Knowledge of professional standards.
• Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements, policies and contracts and ability to ensure compliance.
• Sound assessment and decision-making skills to respond quickly to changing patient care and staff needs. Ability to handle difficult, sensitive problems and situations in a timely, effective manner. Ability to problem solve with creative ideas.
• Ability to implement and apply effective communication skil.ls/conflict management, de-escalation strategies and emotional intelligence in challenging situations.
• Effective presentation skills to convey clear, professional concepts, instructions and messages for the appropriate target audience.
• Skills and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, internal and external clients.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Certification of field of practice preferred (if appropriate)
• Two years Clinical and Supervisory experience at Level 1 Trauma Center
• Two years Clinical and Supervisory Experience at an Academic Medical Center
• Experience working in a Magnet Designated Hospital Setting
