Laboratory Support Supervisor in Specimen Management at Duke University Hospital in Durham. Monday through Friday, hours covering between 2nd and 3rd shift. Rotating weekends as required.
General Description
Supervise the work of subordinate personnel in non-analytic areas of the laboratory to include phlebotomy, specimen management, courier services, and send out services.
Work Performed
Supervise and coordinate the activities of subordinate personnel.
Supervise and participate, as needed, in the more complex procedures and problem solving within functional area.
Provide technical assistance, instruction and consultation to students and employees.
Participate in the development of new procedures, processes and techniques for collection, handling and/or transport of laboratory specimens.
Evaluate and modify workflow patterns and prepare reports outlining appropriate recommendations and conclusions.
Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires an educational background generally equivalent to a high school education. Minimal educational or experience requirements may be modified on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) director if minimal CLIA requirements are met by the employee for the tasks being performed.
Experience
If the position is in a specimen handling area or send out area, 5 years of experience is required. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Phlebotomy certification by a nationally recognized organization is required if the position is in a phlebotomy area.
