Overview
Under the general supervision of the Environmental Services Lead, Manager, and/or Director, EVS Tech I- South Coastal is responsible for providing Environmental Services support to the South Coastal Emergency Department. In addition, this position assist in the transportation of patients and materials to and from the patient care units and other hospital departments utilizing pre-defined response criteria. This position will assist with light maintenance to include unclogging of toilets, investigating/identifying and reporting leaks and generating maintenance work orders of other building related concerns
Responsibilities
CLEANING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clean assigned areas on the campus (Patient/Non-patient; Offices; Elevators; Grounds/Parking garage/Lobbies/Conference rooms) following location standards.
Wash furnishings, curtains, and walls.
Vacuum upholstery.
Remove trash, cardboard, biohazard supplies, and replenish collection devices.
Clean equipment with disinfectant cleaning solutions, following policies and procedures.
Pay close attention to assigned areas and notify leads when pests are sighted.
Ensure areas are left neat and orderly, moving items to clean.
FLOOR CARE:
Sweep, mop, and wax vinyl tile floors.
Vacuum and shampoo carpets.
Scrub grout.
Report when floors need more than minor attention (mopping/vacuuming) for scheduling of waxing/shampooing.
Complete floor care as assigned.
DOCUMENTATION/COMMUNICATION:
Document daily assignments, weight of soiled laundry, linen inventory, requested projects, equipment/facility concerns, and discharge patient room data.
Stay up to date on department updates (read emails, bulletin boards, attend monthly meetings).
Report safety concerns with furniture and work areas (soiled tiles, broken tiles, damaged walls, burnt-out lights).
Clean, empty, and charge equipment as specified.
Complete tasks for EVS Assistant and operate wheelchair washer.
SUPPLY MANAGEMENT:
Monitor and appropriately use cleaning chemicals.
Inform leads when supplies are low or chemicals are ineffective.
Notify leads when minor equipment (mop heads, mop handles, vacuums) is needed.
Assist with supply storage in the department.
LINEN HANDLING:
Collect soiled linen following infection prevention procedures.
Prepare linen for laundering on and off-campus.
Wash and dry linen per department policy.
Deliver cleaned laundry to designated areas and ensure stocking levels are maintained.
Keep the laundry area clean and organized.
Document soiled laundry weight per department policy.
Maintain washing and drying equipment in good working order and report service needs.
INFECTION PREVENTION:
Follow infection policies and sanitize after blood and body fluid spills.
Use proper techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Follow hand hygiene policy consistently.
DEPARTMENT SUPPORT:
Be flexible with assignments, completing tasks related to floor care, cleaning, and linen processing.
Assist leads in meeting customer expectations.
Be flexible with shift changes as needed.
PATIENT ESCORT TEAM MEMBER:
Transfer patients via wheelchair, stretcher, and other available transfer equipment.
Clean and maintain stretchers and wheelchairs after each use.
Use "Green is Clean" tape on cleaned equipment.
Perform light maintenance duties (e.g., unclogging toilets, identifying leaks) and generate work orders for repairs.
Qualifications
Previous cleaning experience in a healthcare institution, school, or hospitality environment preferred. On the job training provided. Experience with any equipment used to clean from floor equipment to sweepers to commercial washers/dryers; Must have excellent customer service skills.
