SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the guidance of the Solid Organ Transplant Director and in collaboration with the Abdominal and Heart Transplant Managers the Solid Organ Transplant Nurse Educator is responsible for the planning, designing and executing all education efforts for living donors, transplant candidates and transplant recipients for kidney, liver, and heart transplants within the hospital and community setting. The Solid Organ Transplant Nurse Educator will follow established clinical practice guidelines and hospital policy in addition to adult learning principles to deliver education that fulfills CMS and other regulatory requirements. The SOT Nurse Educator will maintain knowledge related to the standard of care for living donors, candidates and recipients of kidney, liver and heart transplants. Their duties include, but are not limited to, coordination of staff orientation to transplant and annual training for all departments/units within the organization where transplant patients and living donors are cared for. Transplant training will be tailored to the individual roles of staff within those departments/units based on pertinent information to assist them in their delivery of care to transplant candidates, recipients and living donors. The Solid Organ Transplant Nurse Educator will maintain and update annual competencies and all patient related education material based on regulatory standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by the state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
Bachelor?s degree in Nursing
Two (2) years of experience caring for transplant patients and/or as a Nurse Educator
AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
Experience working as a Nurse Educator
CCTC certified or obtained within 2 years of hire
BLS
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Requires excellent communication and organizational skills
Certification in Nurse Professional Development is required, but can be obtained upon hire
