The Supervisor, Multispecialty Sonographer is responsible for assisting the Management team in the supervision, planning, organizing and improvement of work processes in the department. Performs department orientation, teaches, coaches, supervises team members as well as performs imaging exams in the modalities that they supervise. Assures the organization?s vision, mission, values and goals are adhered to. Recommends and assists in development of policies and procedures to comply with regulatory organizations and Baylor Scott & White Health philosophy. Acts as a department liaison in the manager's absence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Performs diagnostic and vascular ultrasound procedures utilizing a variety of equipment and techniques and makes the necessary measurements required for the interpretation to yield accurate and high-quality results.
Oversees the delivery and quality of imaging services with respect to turnaround times, quality of exams performed and patient preparation in a timely, accurate, and cost-efficient manner in compliance with established System and regulatory standards, policies and procedures. Performs procedures, as needed, due to workload or complexity.
Ensures adequate staffing levels, supplies and resources are available to perform exams and clinical services to meet clinical demands. Schedules, monitors, evaluates and modifies staffing patterns in order to properly provide services in assigned areas.
Interviews, counsels, and completes performance evaluations. Trains new staff and ensures all registrations and certifications are current, on file and up to date. Collaborates with the leadership team and team members to conduct multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure consistent and timely communication throughout the department.
Facilitates goal setting for team members working in the imaging sections. Monitors goals, achievements and ensures the outcome of the goals is reflected in the annual performance evaluations. Encourages team to participate in Employee Satisfaction Surveys, Patient Safety surveys and other activities providing service feedback results to team members. Initiates a plan of action related to areas of improvement.
Collaborates with leadership to develop a budget for the department - including providing feedback on new and replacement equipment and services needed for continued growth
Monitors operational budgets and implements corrective action plans for negative productivity and operating expense variances.
Promotes a culture of service excellence in the imaging sections by collaborating with leadership to communicate service excellence and patient centeredness expectations, and customer satisfaction survey results. Holds self and staff accountable for service excellence in their areas of responsibility and facilitates reward and recognition in the imaging sections.
Acts as a liaison to other departments. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with physicians and other medical departments to gather and exchange information to develop and implement solutions to problems. Assist in developing, reviewing, revising, submitting and implementing policies, procedures and objectives that support Department and System objectives.
Assists in ensuring the imaging sections are compliant with The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the Texas Department of Health (TDH) standards, and other accrediting bodies.
Identifies patient service requirements by utilizing AIDET when communicating with patients to ensure they perform the correct exam on the correct patient, establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand the service requirements.
Coordinates and leads groups focusing on patient safety, customer service, performance improvement, environment of Care, Employee Engagement, Physician Engagement, Quality Improvement, Inter-Departmental Relations, etc. Participates in shared governance, department, hospital, or professional organizations and committees. This can also include LEAN initiatives, 5S projects, inter-departmental committees, or any professional organization participation, QC assurance with radiologist, etc.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Must be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed.
Must meet all of the qualifications and requirements for any two of the following registry specific specialties: Ob/GYN, breast, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or abdomen, and will work a minimum of 25% of the time in the second registry specific specialty.
Pediatric and adult scopes are considered separate specialties by certification.
Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic principles, instrumentation and techniques.
Knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each respective modality. Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures.
Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy
Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians and nurses.
Skilled in the utilization of computers and medical equipment.

ARDMS in (AB) or (OB) or RVT (ARDMS): Must have at least 3 years of related Multispecialty Experience
Must have TWO of the following in separate specialties: ARDMS - RDMS: AB, BR, OB/GYN, PS ARDMS - RDCS: AE, FE, PE ARDMS - RVT ARDSM - RMSKS ARRT - S, VS, BS CCI - RCS, RCCS, RVS, ACS, RPhs.
Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
