Overview
The Program Director will be responsible for the planning, implementation and direction of the Transitional Year (TY) program in coordination with the DIO and DME. The Program Director (PD) is responsible for the overall planning and direction of activities associated with the Transitional Year Residency to meet the ACGME, Joint Commission and other regulatory agency requirements for resident physicians and faculty as outlined by the hospital. The Program Director position will be split between patient care and required Program Director responsibilities. This split is 25% administrative and 75% clinical.
Responsibilities
A.Patient Care – The Program Director will provide high quality patient care in a timely, cost-efficient manner to a broad range of patients consistent with their specialty. Overall, the Program Director will spend clinical time (caring for patients from their own panel) and supervising resident physicians. This will be in accordance with Beebe Healthcare requirements as outlined, but not limited to, the below:
Maintain board certification through regular CME activities and board examinations.
Maintain personal panel of patients and provide supervision to the resident physicians in the outpatient and inpatient clinical settings.
Proficient in common procedures within the scope of their specific specialty.
Participate in night call activities and inpatient rounds on patients.
Participate in weekend call activities for the practice and residency.
Uses resources (referrals and testing) and treatment appropriate to practice philosophy.
Engages in all practice policies/procedures including QA/QI projects.
Maintains hospital privileges.
B. Resident Education
Design and conduct the program in a fashion consistent with the needs of the community, the mission of Beebe Healthcare and the mission of the program.
Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating the resident physicians in each of the ACGME competency areas.
Understand and fully implement the ACGME Common Program Requirements along with the TY Specific Program Requirements.
Approve the selection of program faculty and evaluate program faculty on an annual basis.
Prepare and submit all required information as requested by the ACGME. This includes but is not limited to, program application forms and annual program updates to ADS.
Ensure program is meeting all ACGME standards and requirements.
Implement policies and procedures consistent with institutional and program requirements.
Participates in the recruitment, selection and ranking of resident physician candidates.
Actively participate in scholarly activity and serves as a mentor for resident physicians.
Any other education duties as directed by the DIO or Director of Medical Education.
Qualifications
AOA or ABMS board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
Documented clinical, educational and administrative experience beyond residency training with at least three (3) years of experience as academic faculty in an ACGME accredited program.
Have or able to obtain medical licensure in the State of Delaware.
Demonstration of strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate professional behaviors that allow the Program Director to serve as a role model.
Demonstrate values and behaviors consistent with Beebe Healthcare’s values.

Beebe's Medical Staff has grown tremendously since the early 1990s. Employed physicians through Beebe Medical Group and our affiliated physicians on Beebe's Medical Staff now serve patients from Milford to Millville in specialties including cardiac surgery, dermatology, endocrinology, family practice, gastroenterology, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatric neurology, and surgical oncology.
