The Department of Food and Nutrition at Barnes-Jewish Hospital consists of Patient, Retail and Catering Service areas on both the North and South Campus.¿ This includes patient meal and Clinical Nutrition Services, Queeny Tower Restaurant, three Cafeterias and three Coffee Bars.¿ It is the role of the department to serve the needs of patients, visitors and employees with excellent customer service.¿ Our qualified staff services the patients' nutritional needs during their hospital stay according to specified guidelines to improve their clinical status and assist in the healing process.¿ Opportunities are available for all skill levels from entry-level positions to licensed and/or certified management positions.

Role Purpose
The registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) works within the interprofessional team and with the patient and family providing medical nutrition therapy (MNT); and conducts nutrition assessment, intervention, education, discharge planning, and care coordination to address prevention and treatment of one or more acute or chronic conditions or diseases. This is an entry level position. This dietitian is focused on meeting basic objectives.
Responsibilities
Identifies nutrition related problems, determines nutrition diagnosis, prioritizes nutrition intervention and documents plan of care including writing diet orders and educating patient and families on nutrition plan of care.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient/client understanding of the nutrition support therapy prescription. Evaluates evidence that the nutrition intervention/plan of care is influencing a desirable change in the patient/client behavior or status.
Reviews best available research/evidence and information for application to practice.
Shares current, evidence-based knowledge, information with patients/clients, colleagues, and the public and tailors to the customers needs.
Identifies efficient workflow patterns to optimize time management and maximize patient/client care outcomes.
