The Print Shop Production Supervisor position involves a variety of tasks that include, but are not limited to, the supervision of subordinates, including printing equipment operators of digital, offset, inkjet and large format printers, pre-production positions and bindery/finishing operators, documenting their training, performance, and review process. This individual will prioritize the daily assignments, while monitoring the production and quality of all printing work orders. The position is responsible for the operation and/or management of the prepress processing, web-to-print and MIS systems. When needed, functions as an operator for any of the printing equipment and finishing equipment to ensure deadlines are met. The supervisor will assist with the end of month billing process, checking billable supplies and processes on completed work orders for accuracy. The position's responsibilities include the monitoring and ordering of the department?s supplies and inventory.
Responsibilities:
Supervise the performance of the Operators.
Supervise the production operations, schedule daily work, release information on work orders as necessary & process incoming work orders and estimate printing time & materials as needed.
Set-up, operate & maintain, (as needed) to meet production deadlines, prepress workflow & plate making equipment, color & B&W digital printers, single color, two-color & a four color DI offset printing presses, large format UV Flatbeds, roll to roll and cut sheet inkjet, envelope printers, mail inserters, etc.
Set-up, operate & maintain, (as needed) to meet production deadlines, ancillary printing & binding equipment.
Trains subordinates on printing & ancillary equipment as needed & assist with trouble shooting.
Determine the most efficient method of printing & finishing processes to meet customer's deadlines.
Discuss types of printing & material available with representatives from requesting departments.
Monitor quality of printing projects in all stages of production.
Ability to coach, council and conduct quarterly & annual performance reviews.
Prepare & review completed work orders for accuracy to enter the department invoicing process.
Maintain proper inventory of paper & supplies.
Monitors & maintains safety protocols for all equipment & operational procedures.
Managing staff: Assigning responsibilities, scheduling shifts, and conducting performance reviews
Maintaining quality: Ensuring production meets quality standards and specifications
Scheduling: Scheduling production processes in phases and setting targets
Ensuring safety: Overseeing the safe use of equipment and ensuring compliance with safety standards
Training: Organizing training sessions and educating employees on safety practices
Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving issues that arise during production
Collaborating: Working with other departments to optimize production processes
Scheduling maintenance: Scheduling equipment repairs and ongoing maintenance
Developing and implementing production plans, schedules, and strategies
Ensuring production processes are operating safely and efficiently
Managing inventory levels and coordinating with supply chain staff
Ensuring quality control standards and protocols apply to a production process
Ensuring staff comply with health, safety, and standard operating procedures
All other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
3-5 years leadership experience
Inkjet technology experience preferred
Leadership: Demonstrate leadership and motivation to employees.
Communication: Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Organization: Be organized and have advanced skills in MS Office.
Problem-solving: Have problem-solving skills.
Flexibility: Be flexible to work long hours and travel as needed, up to 50%.
Physical ability: Be able to sit, walk, and move around for long hours.
High School Diploma, and a degree in a technical, engineering, or relevant field is an advantage
