AMN Healthcare has been retained to lead a national search for a highly skilled and dynamic Chief of Oncology Service Line at MaineHealth.
The Opportunity:
MaineHealth Cancer Care (MHCC) is a nationally recognized integrated care system that delivers highly coordinated, state-of-the-art, cancer care across the MaineHealth (MH) network. MH is the largest integrated delivery system in Northern New England and has earned a national reputation for innovation and improving the health of the communities it serves. MaineHealth Cancer Care (MHCC) is fully accredited as a Comprehensive Academic Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), systemwide ASCO QOPI Accreditation, Commission on Cancer (CoC) and a member of NCI Community Oncology Program (NCORP). Its programs provide direct care to nearly 7,600 new cancer cases each year. Due to intense focus on growth, MHCC has grown 16% over the past 3 years and the network exceeds 80% market share in its primary four regions across nearly all disease programs.
The Chief of the Oncology Service Line (Chief) is an excellent opportunity for a physician executive with strong relationship skills, a track record of cancer leadership, and a high level of interest in continuing to expand and integrate clinical, educational and research programs that innovate and deliver specialty specific integrated cancer care.
The Position:
The Chief is responsible for establishing the vision and strategic direction for oncology services across the system, as well as for developing, implementing and overseeing the standardization and improvement of high quality, value-based oncology care.
The Chief will ensure the service line is organized around the patient first, develop clinical protocols and standards for the service line, seek opportunities to advance enrollment in clinical trials across the service line, optimize access to services, establish and oversee system-based patient navigation and tumor conferences, and oversee service line quality programs, including Commission on Cancer Accreditations (CoC, NAPBC, and NAPRC). The ultimate goal is to ensure that the best care is provided in the best location, but that patients are kept as close to home as possible.
The Chief partners in a dyad relationship with the Vice President, Oncology Services and will be expected to be engaged with all of the MH sites, ensuring the same level of care is consistent across the system. The work of the Chief will be supported by Regional Leadership Teams, which include representation from a broad spectrum of oncology stakeholders across the system. The Chief will expect to spend the majority of time on these administrative tasks but will also have a part-time clinical practice and/or research program in the area of their primary expertise.

Qualifications and Experience:
-M.D./D.O. degree or equivalent.
-Board certification in a cancer related specialty.
-Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Maine. It is expected that the Chief will practice part-time.
-Academically eligible for Associate Professor or Professor faculty appointment at the Tufts University School of Medicine.
-Minimum of five years of progressive leadership in an academic or integrated health system, with a proven track record of program development, operational excellence, and team leadership.
-Preferred skills include experience with value-based care models, QA/QI initiatives, and clinical innovation. Commitment to mentoring and developing faculty.
