Diversity

Equity, inclusion, and diversity

Northwest Permanente seeks to create equity in our communities, eliminate health disparities, and always put patients — the heart of everything we do — first.

Our medical group's commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity takes many forms. We seek to instill a high level of cultural agility within our workforce, through training and ongoing discussion groups, and we're committed to hiring bi- or multilingual clinicians.

Equity in health care

Northwest Permanente is committed to exploring and implementing strategies to eliminate the health disparities that persist in our communities.  We have several key programs that align with this commitment:

  • Our Gender Pathways Clinic provides culturally competent care to transgender and gender-expansive patients. Gender Pathways is a unique place for Kaiser Permanente members to receive integrated care in a comfortable, supportive setting.
  • Physicians and staff at our Salud in Español module speak English and Spanish, and interpreter services are available in additional languages. Knowing they can get the services they need in the language they're most comfortable with can provide our patients with peace of mind — and another option for high-quality, personalized care in both Spanish and English.
  • The Kaiser Permanente Center for Black Health and Wellness ensures the highest level of culturally responsive care for our Black and African American members. Our data tells us this group has lower screening rates for cancer and heart disease, and higher rates of diabetes and high blood pressure. We are emphasizing screening and prevention, with a goal of increasing our cultural humility and spreading best practices across our community.
Environment

To provide care where our patients live, Northwest Permanente delivers medicine over a span of 160 miles, from Longview, Kelso, and Vancouver in Washington to Portland, Salem, and Eugene in Oregon.

Kaiser Permanente Northwest consists of more than 30 medical offices and a pair of award-winning hospitals — Sunnyside Medical Center and Westside Medical Center. In addition, we have robust relationships with affiliated clinics and hospitals throughout the region.

Vision

Mission: Through the continuous evolution of the practice of medicine, our mission is to provide integrated, value-based care that is physician-led and person-centered. Kaiser Permanente exists to provide high-quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve.

Vision: Total health for the patients, people, and communities we serve.

Values:

Compassion - We make empathy and kindness central to every interaction — in caring for our patients, our colleagues, and ourselves.

Courage - We face challenges and uncertainty with integrity, strength, and a resolve to act.

Inclusion - We intentionally celebrate difference, leverage diversity, and value the perspectives and experiences of all in order to create an environment where everyone is treated with respect, has equitable access to opportunities, and can contribute meaningfully.

Innovation - We are never satisfied with the status quo — curiosity and creativity drive continuous improvement in our practice.

Ownership - As an independent, physician owned medical group, we own the pursuit of excellence of our care delivery model, the evolution of health care in this country, and engagement of our colleagues and community.
